at its next meeting:

2:00 P.M.
Szechuan Gourmet
21 W. 39th St
(between 5th Ave and 6th Ave)
Restaurant phone: 212-921-0233
Please Note:
While the name of the restaurant where we will meet is the same as the one where we have met for several years, it is a different restaurant in a different location.
At our upcoming meeting,
Dieuwke Eijer will be presenting a lecture
on the metal artist Ozawa Shuraku. Here are Dieuwke's comments regarding her lecture:
Today, 27 years ago, my very first kagamibuta article came out, about the metal artist Ozawa Shuraku. It was at the beginning of my studying kagamibuta, which I have continued to do to this day. In 1991, the internet as we know it, did not exist. Today, we can search databases of institutions all over the worlds. We have a much better overview of the works left behind by the artist. And the artist was certainly one of the most prolific in the field of kagamibuta. His style is striking, as is his choice of materials. At the same time, books published in Japan have become much more accessible, so we can find better information today. It is time to revisit the 1991 article and see if newer information changes the core of it.
Please bring to the meeting any Shuraku kagamibuta you may have. Also, feel free to bring any other kagamibuta or other netsuke you may want.
Please join us at the meeting.
Best regards, Jeffrey
Please bring cash for your food/drink.
