Please join the
New York Chapter
of the International Netsuke Society
at its next meeting:
Sunday, December 7, 2014 at 2pm
Szechuan Gourmet
1395 Second Avenue (near 72nd/73rd Streets)
Restaurant phone: 212-737-1838
Due to various reasons, many of the people who were going to attend our meeting in September had to cancel their plans to come. For that reason, I did not present my talk on the well-known multitalented Australian contemporary netsuke artist, Leigh Sloggett and his work. Instead I will present that talk sometime in 2015.
At our upcoming meeting, Bob Goode will give his annual junishi presentation. 2015 will bring THE YEAR OF THE GOAT- This zodiac animal is sometimes identified as a sheep or ram. The eighth animal of the zodiac is often pictured as a goat. Bob's talk will emphasize the role of the goat in folklore and mythology, and its depiction in netsuke. Please bring your goat netsuke to the meeting. Also, feel free to bring any other netsuke you may want.
Once again, I will give an update regarding the new restrictions on import, export and sales within the U.S. of African elephant ivory and items that contain African ivory (possession of African ivory remains legal).
Please join us at the meeting.
Please bring cash for your food/drink.
